Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Kalpana-1 different from other rockets?

Kalpana-1 is India's first fully reusable orbital rocket, designed to land back on Earth after delivering its payload to orbit. This reusability dramatically reduces launch costs and increases access to space. Unlike traditional rockets that are discarded after a single use, Kalpana-1 can be rapidly refurbished and relaunched, making space more accessible and sustainable.

How many times can Kalpana-1 be reused?

Our current design targets at least 10 reuses without major refurbishment, with a goal of eventually achieving 100+ reuses with minimal maintenance between flights. Each component is designed with longevity in mind, using advanced materials and engineering to withstand the rigors of multiple launches and landings.

What payload capacity does Kalpana-1 have?

Kalpana-1 is designed to deliver up to 32 kg to low Earth orbit (LEO). This capacity makes it suitable for a wide range of missions including satellite deployments, space station resupply, and scientific payloads.

When will Kalpana-1 be available for commercial launches?

We plan to begin commercial operations in late 2027, following the successful completion of our testing program in March 2027. We are already accepting expressions of interest from potential customers for launch slots in our initial operational year.
